Few people realize that the Live! Starring … You! organization actually started with a book written by our founder, Tim O’Shei. It was called, appropriately enough, Live! Starring … You! The original book generated lots of excitement among big-dreaming kids who wondered what it would be like to be famous, so Tim decided to turn it into something more: a full-fledged organization that works with schools, community groups and others to offer workshops that teach writing, speaking and goal-setting skills, while using pop culture as the “hook” to catch the interest of kids, teens (and, by extension, adults too).

To say the least, it’s worked well. We’ve worked with thousands of students and our teen reporters have interviewed several hundred celebrities. We have an arena-sized audience of 14,000-plus fans on Facebook and a YouTube channel with nearly 3 million views.

We’re much more than a book now, but we still love publishing books … and music, too!

The Coloring Book. Be the One! is a coloring book and goal-setting guide based on the lyrics of a song of the same name, written by Tim O’Shei and Grammy-nominated producer Anthony Casuccio. The book was illustrated by Brianna Kincaid and Sara Bingham, and the song was performed by Francesca Harvey. Hip hop dance icon Geo Hubela joined us in March ’14 for a fun release party. Be the One! is available at special LSY! events and at Tim O’Shei’s author appearances.

The Music. Edge of the Spotlight is the soundtrack to Tim O’Shei’s novel-in-progress, also called Edge of the Spotlight. The CD featuring singer-songwriters Leah Santiago, Francesca Harvey and Gabi Hartman and is produced by Tim O’Shei and Grammy nominee Anthony Casuccio, with Jordann Luce.

• The Swag. We have “Write to Your Dreams!” wristbands, notepads, buttons, embroidered hats and even customized make-up. Put it together and you have the makings of a very cool H0llywood-style “swag bag.” Students in our small-group and one-day workshops go home with an array of these gifts, as do prize-winners from our large-group sessions.
