Meet Rebecca Wojcinski, LSY! teen reporter

Most memorable experiences with LSY!: Definitely when I interviewed Allstar Weekend. Since I had been a fan for such a long time, it was so strange to actually meet them. I still can’t believe I’m able to say I met Allstar Weekend. It seems so surreal.

Most inspirational song: The song that always picks me up is “Stand” by Britt Nicole. Whenever I’m feeling bad about myself I just put on the song and it helps me out of my funk. It’s just an amazing song to listen to.

Most unusual experience: When I went to Niagara Falls with my family we got really close to these squirrels. I have always wanted to touch a squirrel and pet it but I knew they were kinda vicious so I stayed away. Then things got weird. A squirrel was on the ground by my feet and I looked away and all of the sudden there were claws in my leg, and I looked and the squirrel was climbing up my leg. It was absolutely terrifying so I stood and watched. Then it realized I didn’t have food so it climbed back down and ran away.

Career goal: I want to become a successful journalist and travel to London. London is the one place I’ve wanted to go to all my life and I can’t wait till I get to see it finally.

Key fashion item: Nail polish!! I’m not sure if that counts, but I always have to have nail polish on. I can’t go more than a day without it on, unless I absolutely have to. I like to do funky designs whenever I can, and even if I don’t have the time for something spectacular, i make the time to do something with my nails.

Most proud of: I’m most proud of being able to say I am published on because that made me feel like I accomplished something huge! The other thing would be that I got to meet the Wiggles and learn the “Fruit Salad” dance.

Biggest inspiration: My biggest inspiration – and I know this will sound cheesy – is Tim O’Shei, who runs Live! Starring … You!, because he is the one who helped me figure out that I wanted to become a writer. I never would have figured out that I wanted to do this and I never would have known it is something I love to do so much, if it weren’t for him.

Favorite movie: Percy Jackson and The Olympians: The Lightning Thief is my all-time favorite movie! I don’t know why but it has this feel to it that I just really like. I like the action-type movies much more than a chick flick. I watch that movie all the time.

Favorite book: The Hunger Games: Catching Fire

How and why you got involved in LSY!: My sister was really involved so I started to hear about it from her and it sounded like a really cool thing to do. I’ve always liked writing but I kind of put it to the side and put my dancing career first. When I started my freshman year at Mount St. Mary Academy (where LSY! is headquartered) I realized that I really loved to write and it was what I wanted to do. That’s the reason I got involved, because I love it so much.

Dream interview: One Direction!

Your best writing tip for aspiring journalists: The thing I always struggle with is spelling and grammar. I’m the worst speller you will ever meet, and I’m not as bad as grammar, but I am still pretty bad at it. I would say the best thing you could do is work on those two things because I never really paid any attention to those because I didn’t think I needed them, but I really do.

Your best interviewing tip for aspiring journalists: Preparation is the most important thing before going to an interview! You have to make sure you know enough about the person or group you’re interviewing so there is never an awkward silence. Those are just…. awkward. You want to make sure you have enough questions, but not too much. Preparation is the most important thing there is. Oh and don’t be too nervous, I made that mistake with Allstar Weekend. Remember they are just normal people and relax.

Favorite quote: “The best version of yourself is just you.” – Disney star Calum Worthy in our interview. And also this one from Melissa Quiseng: “Who cares about what anyone else thinks. If I did, I might as well dig a hole and jump in it.”
